Appendix

In 1991 a photograph was discovered which showed a charabanc registered EN344. The vehicle was shown with solid tyres and a canvas roof, which had been folded back. The coat-of-arms of Bury Corporation is clearly visible on the side. There is no record of this vehicle being purchased in the council minutes and the registration book (in Bury archives) gives no detail, other than the dates of registration of the previous and following vehicles, and only shows the registration number (EN344) and a note to refer to the ‘Heavy Motor’ book, which has been lost over the years. Further enquiries revealed that the vehicle was first registered in July 1912 and was based on a Dennis chassis with 27-seat bodywork, but no additional information has yet come to light.
